NOT!!!

So today was pretty much a disaster!!

We started out good. Took Preston to Camp and then Kyla and I went to Parlee Farm where we met a bunch of Moms from the group and picked strawberries. We headed out and picked Preston up and returned home. This is where the “fun” begins!

As I unlocked the door Boo Boo was barking an unusual bark so I went to down to the basement to let them out and turn on the water for the pool. As I stepped off the bottom stair and onto the carpet in the basement it squished, yes squished! Water!! My first thought was the sewer, the line runs by there. Then as I walked on it just kept squishing and then I turned on the light and saw the washing machine was flooding(had flooded) the basement. I tried to turn it off and the water kept coming. I unplugged it and the water kept coming. I turned off the water to the house and it finally stopped. It was stuck on the rinse cycle…. for somwhere around 4 hours!!!!!! We had about 2 inches of whater EVERYWHERE! I then went into the office, the finished part of the basement and saw that there were computers in the water. Called Jarod! He packed up and headed home. I then realized that I could’ve been electricuted… nice! But I wasn’t, so all is good.

I then called Sears, this was “fun” too! The second person I talked to said they couldn’t get someone out until the 30th, NEXT WEEK…. seriously! I then talked to someone else, who according to the second person was going to tell me the same thing she did. He didn’t. He was all, “we are going to do everything we can to get this taken care of today”. Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about! So they got a technician out at around 4:00pm and he was suppose to have a dry vac. Did you read the “suppose to” part. The technician said that was the insurance department’s thing. So I immediately called the number that the 3rd guy gave me only to have the call drop with the 4th person. So the 5th person I talked to started giving me attitude. By now I was all calm and ready to give attitude back, unlike when I talked to the 3rd guy and was trying to talk through the beginning of those frustration tears. She put me on hold and talked to someone and when she came back on the line she was all nicey nice! THEN I was connected to the 6th and final person! He was in the insurance/claims department. He talked to me for a bit and then the technician and then me again. He’s filing a claim for us and will call me in the morning. The technician, who by the way was here yesterday performing the yearly maintenance, fixed the washing machine. We were then left to get ahold of someone to come dry the carpet.

Before the carpet cleaning “fun”. The water valve that lets the water in the machine got stuck and didn’t close so it just kept letting water in no matter if the machine was on or off. K, back to the carpet cleaning. Because the local Sears office doesn’t have a contract with a company here we had to get someone out here. I called Jimmy from our insurance company and asked him who he refers and he gave me the name of a company and they were out here in 2 hours!

He vacuumed up the water and then ripped up the carpet, removing the pad so that there would be no mold. We also will have to redo the dry wall, about a foot up the wall because it soaked up the water, also to prevent mold. Oh the fun! Did I mention the pool company came out today too!! Yep, they found multiple holes in the liner by the ladder. Stupid stone dust! Yes, I’m kicking myself for not putting down sand last year but what can you do. So they patched as much as they could, about 5 large patches and said it should buy us some time but we will need to get another liner sooner then later….. of course we do, have you seen our day today!!

Anyways, our living room looks like a computer store. Oh which reminds me, we lost a scanner, two computers, power strips, backup power supply and some other cords in the Flood of 08 at the Wilson House. :0)

Yes, we are strange and have been laughing all afternoon after the initial shock wore off. I got to get mad at the Sears people and Jarod had “alone time” in the office for a bit while getting stuff off the floor. But after that we’ve been fine. I think I was more frustrated that all this water was in my basement and not in my pool!!!!! But now hopefully I won’t have to fill up the pool anymore, that’ll be awesome!

As for the claim stuff. I’ll get a call from Mark, dude #6, and he’ll give me a claim number then 24-48 hours later I’ll hear from the claims department and find out who they determine is liable…..I’ll let you know!

Alright, I’m done for tonight. I’m tired and my legs are hurting from the 5 billion trips up and down the stairs. Night
