cleaning!

So we’ve been cleaning the basement all day, evening and night. Just trying to move things around, get rid of the wet boxes and trash so we can get Jarod’s computer stuff out of the living room. Seems like we made a bigger mess. But then we spent some time reorganizing it and it looks WAY better!

We’ve still got to get pad for the carpet and get the carpet reinstalled but I want to talk to Sears first! Wish me luck for tomorrow!!

Change, change, change

So as much as I liked the blue on the other layout it was just WAY to boring for me! So until I find another one that I really like, cause I’m not crafty enough to make my own, I’m going to be messing around and trying out new ones for a bit. So please bear with the changes :0).

On another note, we are getting ready to go camping next week. We are heading over to Salisbury Beach State Reservation. It’ll be nice to get away from the house and all the troubles and play at the beach for a few days. Everyone is REALLY looking forward to it. If anyone wants to join us while we are there, email me or post a comment and I’ll let you know what campsite we will be in and when :0).

Here is a photo from the last time we were at Salisbury:

looking better

The basement is coming along nicely. We turned off the fans this evening, the carpet is completely dry! We still have the dehumidifiers going as there is still some boxes and such that are wet. Overall it’s looking and smelling better. Now Jarod has to cut out the bottom part of the drywall, woohoo fun!

He did get a break last night! Jarod and his friend Arlinton went to see the new Hulk movie at Chunky’s. They said it was good. After the movie Arlinton hung out here for a while.  We all chit-chatted til the early morn. It was good for Jarod to get out and have some fun. He’s had a bad month so he needed that! Thanks Arlinton.

We’re gonna start rearranging the basement. We are going to move Jarod’s office stuff to the unfinished side - where the computer rack is - and make the office a play room. First we have to get new dry wall and pad for the carpet. Oh and Monday I have to call the claims department again and tell them somehting I tried to tell them on Friday but was on hold for 15 minutes and never even spoke to anyone! Figures! They are suppose to call me on Monday so keep your fingers crossed for us!!!!

Remember this?

I just came across this while looking for something else and thought I would post it :0)

Kyla never crawled, she scooted. She didn’t walk until 13 months.

Training is done

We finished our training tonight! Yay!

We had CPR/1st Aid tonight and are now done. Jarod hung in there as he was just diagnosed with an inner and outer ear infection along with high blood pressure. He has to go back in two weeks and recheck his blood pressure. This is not our month!!!!!!

Wendy will contact me next week and we’ll set up appointments for interviews and make sure I’ve gotten all the paperwork in. She does have to do some research to see if we’ll need to get a background check from WA. We’ve only been in MA a little over 2 years so I can understand why. I’m already on file in WA because of teaching so hopefully that makes it easier.

OH, when we showed up for CPR tonight we all had to wait a bit because they were having a meeting in the conference room. I had to run back down to get some papers I forgot in the car and on my way back I passed a Mom, son and a placement child in the hallway. He was a teenager and she was introducing her son to him. As they passed I realized what was going on and turned my head to take note and it was so sad to see him walking with his “new family” going to his “new home” and all he had was a small clear trash bag with maybe a change of clothes in it, that’s it! It’s heartbreaking to see these poor kids leaving what they know with nothing from what they knew except their memories. How HARD and SCARY!!

There were also two more little boys(placements) that were there with their Foster Mom, she was in the CPR class. Not sure if they were new placements or not but they were young, brothers that were under 4. Too cute but very connected with their Foster Mom, that was heart warming!

strawberries

Oh, I forgot to post these cute pictures from the strawberry picking yesterday :0)

Kyla and I are enjoying our us time while Preston’s at Camp. Oh he had a field trip to the Buterfly Place today with his class. He’s enjoyed camp so far.

Kyla liked picking strawberries. Actually she just liked walking thru the fields. I did most the picking but she did help now and then.

Tomorrow we are having a Pool Party. It’s suppose to be warm, low 90’s so it should be a good day. Now I just have to get the ladder fixed so it won’t ruin the patches or make more holes in the liner!

Network

Can I just say how glad/lucky I am to have such a great network of friends!!

Not only were we able to get our carpets taken care of within a couple of hours but within minutes of posting a message on the boards of my Moms’ Group I had roughly 3 or so offers to use their dehumidifiers. Plus I called my friend around the corner and borrowed one from them too. So we have 3 dehumidifiers going downstairs plus the fans that the carpet guy left. I picked two of them up last night and one was graciously dropped off at our house this morning. A great big THANKS to all!!!!!!!!!

Here is a photo of the water as I stepped on the carpet:

p1060842.JPG

Everything is drying out downstairs and the moisture in the air is going away, yay! I didn’t have to spend the day on the phone, tomorrow.

Oh, I also didn’t have to fill up the pool this morning, score! For now it’s holding and I vacuumed it up. Lots of sedement due to filling it up everyday. Our well was not happy but it cooperated! I’m SO glad that is over…. for now :0).

On another note we have CPR training this evening, so at least we’ll get a break from the house for a bit :0).

And a fun photo, well sort of. Kyla’s first drawing on the computer :0)

The fun of Owning a Home

NOT!!!

So today was pretty much a disaster!!

We started out good. Took Preston to Camp and then Kyla and I went to Parlee Farm where we met a bunch of Moms from the group and picked strawberries. We headed out and picked Preston up and returned home. This is where the “fun” begins!

As I unlocked the door Boo Boo was barking an unusual bark so I went to down to the basement to let them out and turn on the water for the pool. As I stepped off the bottom stair and onto the carpet in the basement it squished, yes squished! Water!! My first thought was the sewer, the line runs by there. Then as I walked on it just kept squishing and then I turned on the light and saw the washing machine was flooding(had flooded) the basement. I tried to turn it off and the water kept coming. I unplugged it and the water kept coming. I turned off the water to the house and it finally stopped. It was stuck on the rinse cycle…. for somwhere around 4 hours!!!!!! We had about 2 inches of whater EVERYWHERE! I then went into the office, the finished part of the basement and saw that there were computers in the water. Called Jarod! He packed up and headed home. I then realized that I could’ve been electricuted… nice! But I wasn’t, so all is good.

I then called Sears, this was “fun” too! The second person I talked to said they couldn’t get someone out until the 30th, NEXT WEEK…. seriously! I then talked to someone else, who according to the second person was going to tell me the same thing she did. He didn’t. He was all, “we are going to do everything we can to get this taken care of today”. Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about! So they got a technician out at around 4:00pm and he was suppose to have a dry vac. Did you read the “suppose to” part. The technician said that was the insurance department’s thing. So I immediately called the number that the 3rd guy gave me only to have the call drop with the 4th person. So the 5th person I talked to started giving me attitude. By now I was all calm and ready to give attitude back, unlike when I talked to the 3rd guy and was trying to talk through the beginning of those frustration tears. She put me on hold and talked to someone and when she came back on the line she was all nicey nice! THEN I was connected to the 6th and final person! He was in the insurance/claims department. He talked to me for a bit and then the technician and then me again. He’s filing a claim for us and will call me in the morning. The technician, who by the way was here yesterday performing the yearly maintenance, fixed the washing machine. We were then left to get ahold of someone to come dry the carpet.

Before the carpet cleaning “fun”. The water valve that lets the water in the machine got stuck and didn’t close so it just kept letting water in no matter if the machine was on or off. K, back to the carpet cleaning. Because the local Sears office doesn’t have a contract with a company here we had to get someone out here. I called Jimmy from our insurance company and asked him who he refers and he gave me the name of a company and they were out here in 2 hours!

He vacuumed up the water and then ripped up the carpet, removing the pad so that there would be no mold. We also will have to redo the dry wall, about a foot up the wall because it soaked up the water, also to prevent mold. Oh the fun! Did I mention the pool company came out today too!! Yep, they found multiple holes in the liner by the ladder. Stupid stone dust! Yes, I’m kicking myself for not putting down sand last year but what can you do. So they patched as much as they could, about 5 large patches and said it should buy us some time but we will need to get another liner sooner then later….. of course we do, have you seen our day today!!

Anyways, our living room looks like a computer store. Oh which reminds me, we lost a scanner, two computers, power strips, backup power supply and some other cords in the Flood of 08 at the Wilson House. :0)

Yes, we are strange and have been laughing all afternoon after the initial shock wore off. I got to get mad at the Sears people and Jarod had “alone time” in the office for a bit while getting stuff off the floor. But after that we’ve been fine. I think I was more frustrated that all this water was in my basement and not in my pool!!!!! But now hopefully I won’t have to fill up the pool anymore, that’ll be awesome!

As for the claim stuff. I’ll get a call from Mark, dude #6, and he’ll give me a claim number then 24-48 hours later I’ll hear from the claims department and find out who they determine is liable…..I’ll let you know!

Alright, I’m done for tonight. I’m tired and my legs are hurting from the 5 billion trips up and down the stairs. Night

For you Dad

So my Dad saw a pic of me, well the back of my head and got a little nervous. Let’s just say, he likes my hair longer then shorter. So you might understand why he was a bit nervous when he saw a similar photo:

p1060800.JPG

HA, it looks like I have a bald spot. Really it’s almost midnight, so you got a days worth of rain and wind plus I got it cut 3.5 weeks ago.

But this is the part that is for you Dad:

p1060798.JPG

See, I told you it looked nothing like the back did. You can relax now :0).

Usually the far back is more spiky but like I said it’s almost midnight and I gotta take a shower. Night!
