So Kyla decided to be a “pretty princess” today. I don’t know where they pick up the princess thing but we don’t do it here… but I guess we might. Though it is really cute how she says pretty princess :0).

spoke to soon
Yep, I got a call from Dare Family Services this afternoon. Basically just wanting to know if I have any other questions and to make sure I was clear on a couple of things. She is sending me the application packet but I’m also going to be looking into Casey Family Services, which is another Foster Care Service but is much closer then the one I would have to drive to for Dare… 15 minutes vs 45 minutes!!
I already have information from Casey so I just need to call and ask a few questions and maybe set up a meeting with them and go from there. This way we can see which “company” we want to work with/feel comfortable with.
I’ll keep you updated :0)

We’re in!
So I just got off the phone with Debbie from the Fresh Air Fund and we’re in the computer! That means we passed the CORI, background check and now are in the computer in NY awaiting a match. As soon as we are matched with a family in NY(it could take a little while) she’ll give me a call and I’ll let you all know!
YAY!

no call
Well, I didn’t get a call from Dare so I’m guessing they are sending out the application… we’ll see.
You know, people make comments/questions to me about our choice to do Foster Care that I wonder if they would be still be made/asked if we had just chosen to get pregnant again?! It’s weird how one’s thinking changes because you do something out of orthodox. Not being in the main stream is me though. I never really did what every one else did and Jarod is quite an unique individual too. So for us I guess this would be orthodox.
Either way, we are both excited and looking forward to what will come!

let’s see
Friday was pretty calm, we had some friends over and Preston played Wii with his friend Chandler. Other then that we didn’t do much.
Preston had Soccer on Saturday but I forgot my camera! He absolutely LOVES soccer!! He’s getting better too. He did really good on offense and defense and he’s even trying to pass the ball to his teammates! After soccer we ran to the store and then home as some other friends were coming over.
After our friends got there we went outside and played in the yard until our friend Carter got hurt. The water table was upside down and he climbed on it and then Kyla flipped the table - Carter fell and the leg of the table(rounded edges) cut his cheek. It wasn’t too bad but not just a scrape either. The cut was near his mouth so every time he opened his mouth it would reopen. His Mom called the Dr and they had her take him to the ER. I watched her daughter while she did that, the least I could do! They didn’t stitch it but put the cement type stuff on to make it stick. I hope it heals well!!
After all that excitement I finished cleaning the house because I was having some other friends over. We had a fun night of talking and laughing. We also played a little bit of Catch Phrase. It was a fun night!
Today we aren’t doing much, just hanging out, playing video games and dancing to music :0)!

Spring Party
We went over to a friend’s house today for a Spring Party playgroup… half the Mom’s group was there :0).
Everyone had a great time. The kids ran around crazy, having fun on the swing set, in the sand box and sprinkler. We had awsome yummy snacks and I even made a Pasta Salad to take… go me :0)!
It was nice to see some of the Moms I don’t see very often and some that just had babies including one Mom who has twins and just had another set of twins…. crazy! I hand it to her man!! She has 4 boys all under 3! Can you imagine?!?!?! I can’t! She handles it great but I’m sure she has her days, as we all do :0).
After that we headed over to Target and the mall(same place) to pick up a gift for someone. I totally forgot I haven’t taken Kyla to the mall in ages! She was just captivated by all the sites and sounds!! Pointing and announcing everything with amazement, it was really cute!
We then returned home and Preston for some reason decided to get into the trailer and get his kite out… we’ve never flown it! But he wanted to fly it today. It was windy but not that windy and after an hour of untangling it(I have no idea how he tangled it up so well) we did try a few times but it didn’t fly, another day.

Taking a turn
So after much discussion and questions to Alison we have decided to enter the world of Foster Care!
I talked to somebody at Dare Family Services today and they did the preliminary screening over the phone to make sure we qualify and then will pass our information on to the next person who will either contact me for more questions or just send out the application.
It’s exciting and nerve racking all at the same time. One, it’s exciting to get the process started and have another child join our family and get to experience what *family* is about. Though on the other hand, the “surprise” of what type of situation the child comes from is a little nerve racking! We will have the opportunity to preview information about the child before we accept them into our home and Dare seems to have a great support system in place consisting of weekly visits and meetings and also monthly trainings.
It’s just an awesome feeling knowing that we can help kids understand what *family* is…. that it’s a fun safe place!
I look forward to our trainings and learning many new things.

generousity
We have a friend who is more generous then she may know!
Yesterday when the the Playgroup was coming to an end one of the Moms(and a friend), generously passed on to Kyla her daughter’s clothes. I don’t mean just a few clothing items, I mean a couple of large boxes full! I am so grateful and I hope you know that! I wonder at times what I’ve done to be a recipient of this kind of generosity?! I feel that saying Thank You isn’t enough and I definitely mean what I said, if you ever need a day or what not, drop the kids off!!
Generosity is a wonderful thing it makes things seem so good. With all the bad things you hear about lately it is a relief to see such generosity. Being on the receiving end I can say it’s overwhelming… being so grateful that someone is that kind and thoughtful. It’s a wonderful thing! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it paid off
So today we had to run some errands and I was feeling generous so I offered Preston his allowance early this week and he was totally stoked because it gave him $20! This meant he could get a fish. He’s been saving up for about 2 months now and he was SO excited he grab my head and gave me a big ol’ kiss and said he loved me…. too cute.
Preston picked out the “home” he wanted for his fish. Luckily it was starter kit, “bowl”, food, water stuff, rocks and a plant. Then he picked out a Beta fish, a purple one. He wanted a red one but for some reason settled on a purple one… who knows :0). We then got home and he put everything together and I dumped the fish in. He named him Bubble and is soooo excited about it.

one big play day
We had a Playgroup at our house today, outside!! I woke up this morning and it was overcast and I was a little worried about the weather but at least it wasn’t raining. Soon though, the sun came out and all was fine. We had about 7 mom’s here with about 13 kids and it seemed like everyone had fun. The kiddos ran around like crazy and tested all of the new “limits” in the backyard :0). At least now I know what I need to reinforce and block off. Preston wasn’t amused with me that he has to play in the backyard now. He is so use to going back and forth between the front and backyards and being able to ride his bikes on the driveway that he hates the “fence”. He’ll get use to it or just be mad at me all the time, either way at least it’s safer with the “fence” up. Plus we’ll ride bikes in the front yard when we don’t have Playgroups and such.
I didn’t take any photos, sorry. We did order pizza and had a “picinc” lunch. I really need to get some tables and more chairs but we’ll do with what we have for now. Hopefully I can come across some on Freecycle so we’ll see :0). I’d also like to get a nice patio set for our deck, hopefully I can do that this summer, gotta check the budget :0). It would be nice to have somewhere to sit on the wonderful decks we have while the kids play.
That was pretty much our day. We hung out inside for a couple of hours and then went back outside this evening. It’s nice to be able to get outside so much and we are taking full advantage but it is also nice to go back inside :0)!
