Well we got some news today that is going to slow things down a bit. Kathy from Children’s House International sent me a note this morning about some adoption requirements that we are going to have trouble meeting. We need to be 35 years old and married for at least 10 years.
When we started it was 30 years old and married for 5 years, these are the newer requirements. But as government goes and it all depending on whose in charge the people in charge of the Haitian adoption in Haiti have been holding adoptions to the old requirements, which is 35 and 10.
As bummed out as some might be we are actually okay with this. We were never in a hurry and new there would be delays and such, not exactly a 5 year delay but CHI and C4C are hopeful that the age/marriage requirements will “change” after the first of the year.
This doesn’t change our want to adopt, we will still move forward with our adoption. As for now we will probably move forward with our Home Study and get that done, just a bit slower. Then we’ll wait to hear more about the age/marriage requirements before we decide to either stick it out or switch to a different country, maybe Ethiopia. We’ll see :0).

As a PAP who is adopting from Haiti, my advice is sadly, pick another country! Haiti is such a long, LONG process-We have been trying to get our son home for two years one month. Trust me, I thought waiting would be fine, but its very hard. Ethiopia is where we’re going next, its supposed to be much better. Also, we’re going through C4C too. Good Luck! Ask Kathy to talk to other actual matched parents to get a clear idea of what lies ahead.
