Another sleep test done and gone

Yesterday Baby K and I made our way to the hospital for another sleep test. This one was a bit different as it involved a GI probe. This was to check and see if she has reflux…. fluid entering her lungs, a bit different since we don’t have the projectile vomiting but who knows.

We got to the hospital around 4pm, had dinner and hung out until about 9:30. My goal, was to keep her awake for the people who set up the test(not the hospital). We played in the play room wondered the halls and she had a blast in her crib entertaining the nurses :0). She’s a goof ball!!

About 9:30ish they arrived and attempted to stick the probe in her nose into her esophagus. They didn’t get it in the first attempt but did get it in the other nostril. She gagged, coughed and sneezed for a while and then settled down and fell asleep. Then radiology appeared in our room to take an x-ray to make sure the probe was in the right spot. After that they added more stickies to her and then she was off to dream land. OH, I should add, she is 10 months so to keep her from ripping on the wires and probe out they put little make-shift arm restraints on her that worked like a charm!! It looked like she had broken wings.

All-in-all she did really really well. Made it all the way until 8:30 with almost all the wires on. Woohoo, hopefully we get some good results and can get her off her apnea monitor. We won’t hear anything until tomorrow, at the earliest.

Though, as always with Baby K, there was something new. The x-ray showed some fluid in her lung… maybe. It could of been her diaphragm but either way we have a follow-up with the Lung Specialist in a couple months. But for now, same-o-same-o.

As for me, I had a relaxing quiet night. Got some planning done for Disney World and was able to hear my own thoughts. It was nice :0)

** if you want to see pix they are on our photos site, so check it out or email me/leave a comment and I’ll send you the link.

Now on to packing the trailer……

Disney, Maine and Surprises

so most of last week was spent reserving tickets, rooms and airlines for our upcoming trip to Disney World! YAY! My parents are going to meet us down there and I can not wait. It’s going to be soooo much fun. The kids are so excited and keep asking when we are going. A couple more months. A lot of planning goes into this trip, that’s for sure. Now that the basics are reserved I need to get going on what our days are going to be like. There’s so much to do and I’ve already made dinner reservations, all over the place because I’m not sure exactly where we are going to be, so for now I’m just making reservations. I’ll cancel the ones I dont’ want once I finalize where we will be going every day.

Anyways, we also made a trip up to Maine this week. A friend does a little “school” with some other Mom’s and they went up to York’s Wild Kingdom in Maine and invited us to tag a long. It was fun and we even stopped by the beach for a few minutes before the thunder started and the beach cleared. Never seen people skidadle so fast :0).

Then Saturday we did some work around the house. The sun was out… finally, so the kids went swimming. A friend stopped by to join the swimming fun. It’s so nice to be able to use the pool!!! It’s been raining sooooo much lately. Jarod worked on the deck and even made a gate for the deck. Only one more to go. I worked on cleaning the inside a bit and I’m glad I did… more on that later. Oh yeah, the point, we got a phone call, Kyla won a free Birthday Package from our local sports center. Way to go Kyla! Didn’t even know she was entered :0).

Today Jarod had a couple baseball games and the rest of us hung out at the house. Good thing too because I ended up finishing the cleaning I started yesterday… we had another showing this afternoon! No clue how it went but at least we had another showing.

Now I need to pack the trailer because we are going camping soon. Plus tomorrow I have ato take Baby K to the hospital for another sleep test… hopefully she passes this time…. fingers crossed!!!!!!

recap

A late happy Dad’s Day to all the Dad’s out there!!!

We had a pretty laid back day yesterday. Jarod had a playoff soccer game down South of Boston, which took up half the day. The kids and I slept in and then took Preston to his first Reading Class. He’s attending a Summer Reading Program put on by the University of Boston. It’s a 5 week class, one day a week for two hours. He enjoyed the first session and even read me one of the books that was in his packet. It was 64 pages long! He is VERY proud of himself. He actually can read quite well but with his anxiety of messing up I figured this would(hopefully) be a good tool to help build his confidence. And so far, after only 1 class he seems more confident. I’m looking forward to seeing what his skills are at the end of the 5 weeks. We do have homework to do in between the classes, which is good because part of his anxiety is reading to us. But he did absolutely awesome last night and even bragged to Jen this morning about how long the book was and then began reading it again :0).

Alright back to Dad’s day. After Jarod got home we took him to Smokey Bones for a late lunch, early dinner. They were PACKED!!! They also emailed out $20 off coupons for Dad’s day….. so of course they were packed!! But it was sooooo good and well worth the wait. Plus the kids did great, all 3 of them. Then we made our way back home and rested for a while and then the kids took Jarod to the local Ice Cream place for a treat. And that pretty much sums up Jarod’s Dad’s Day. He enjoyed it, which is all that matters :0).

Hope everyone else had a good day too!

Preston’s Gymnastics Show

Preston had his gymnastics show last night. His team, the boys, did a floor routine and then they did individual routines on the bars and rings. He did good and had fun. He didn’t do his back hand spring, which is what I was looking forward to but oh well. Only one kid actually did the back hand spring and he’s been doing it the whole year and also has 3 years on Preston. We’ll see what Preston decides to do in the fall…. Hockey or Gymnastics. For now enjoy the show:

of course Jared came to watch:

Soooo….

I just got off the phone with Baby K’s case worker and he informed me that he just got out of her court hearing and her goal has been officially changed to Adoption. He did recommend usĀ  and put a good word about us. So not sure what is next or if the court has to decide between us and her uncle. Though I’m not sure if he is still in the picture or not. It’s all so confusing and there is always something new popping up. So I’m not sure what to feel right now. Though I am a bit excited but at the same time a little unsure of everything…… so many processes to learn.

OH and if we do end up adopting her then we will still continue to do Foster Care. It’s something I really like being a part of. It’s the perfect job for me!! Joshua will be her in a couple weeks but after he leaves I already told my coordinator that we will be up for another child. A little closer to Preston’s age…. so we’ll see.

Always something going on over here :0)

Maiden Voyage

JoAnna and I took my car(and trailer) on it’s maiden voyage. She and I took the kids camping at Salisbury Beach for the weekend. We left Friday around noon and returned today around noon. The weather wasn’t looking good but we don’t mind things like that… and I’m glad we don’t because it was absolutely beautiful!!! Clear blue skies the whole time. The kids had a fantastic time and can’t wait to do it again.

This was a great trip for us. Not only did JoAnna and I have a good time but it opens up so much opportunity of when and where we can go camping during the summer! We make a really good team which makes wrangling 5 young kids not as big a chore as it could be.

Here are a few pix:

where’d the week go?!

In comparison we’ve had a really calm week… phew, it’s nice to get back to those :0).

Sunday I watched the boys for JoAnna. They stayed the night with us. Kyla loves having them over for a sleep-over. JoAnna came and got them Monday morning and then they headed off to NY for the week. I then loaded everyone up and took Boo to the Vet for his yearly physical. He’s doing well, except that he has a form of Lyme. He had Lyme like 2 years ago but this time it’s a “lighter” version of it. So he’s on meds for a couple weeks. He already seems to be feeling better, so that’s good.

The rest of the week was pretty quiet. I had my weekly meeting with Jen(my MENTOR coordinator). Then the kids and I went to Target to get a couple of things. Haven’t been there in a while which is a good thing. Trying to keep us on a budget, HA, we’ll see how that goes :0). Wednesday Baby K should’ve had a visit but didn’t, we’re going on a month now of no visits. We do have a quarterly review on Monday so hopefully we’ll get a really good idea of what’s going on and what the plan is! Kyla had her last day of Soccer class. She does really well in class and loves it. I have a couple video’s I need to upload. Oh but before class I made a trip to the Dr., my back was acting up. I haven’t had any issues in about 4 years! Got some muscle relaxers and other advise. It’s better now. Which is good cause otherwise I would’ve had to fit in physical therapy next week. Wednesday afternoon we headed over to a friend’s house and the kids played inside and out while we adults talked :0), it was a nice break and the kids had fun. Thanks Lisa!

That night I attended a class/seminar on Disciplining children with disabilities(autism, ocd, sensory and others). There weren’t as many people there as they made it seem like there was going to be. But anyways, it was an open discussion type of class with the two teachers leading the way. They had a lot of good info but I think we could’ve used a couple more hours. Luckily we go back next Wed. for 2 more hours. A lot of the ideas, I think, are good for any child not just ones with disabilities. As I did use some of the suggestions with Kyla and it worked really well. I’ve used the suggestions with Preston too, yesterday and today. To help keep him from escalating when he gets upset. It did work but I think it was more of a realization of how I was responding to his tantrums. Staying calm is key! Even though I thought I was staying calm before I realize now I wasn’t. Plus with him I have to be thinking and re-evaluating my approach the whole time… unlike Kyla, who I can stay on the same page with…. Preston, I have to go through the whole book! It’s just more time/patience for us with him. It seems like it takes him a little extra time for him to process what’s going on and to accept and alternate choice.

Thursday was Kyla’s last day of preschool. She still has another 2 years so no biggie on it being the last day. Later that afternoon she came down with a stomach bug… hopefully. She’s still asleep on the floor today. No real fever but a student at her school was confirmed with having the flu(possibly the swine flu). For now she’s doing okay unless she eats something, then it comes back up. Hopefully she makes it through the night cause I could really use some sleep!

Oh yeah, today Preston got to visit his “new” school, the Elementary School. He was very excited to see some of his teammates from his Baseball team there. He is very much looking forward to being a 1st grader.

So we ended this week with Preston having a baseball game. He’s doing well and hopefully I can make the next one so I can get some photos. Kyla is asleep on the floor here in the living room and Preston has an early [last] Soccer game tomorrow morning.

Have a good weekend!
